Fired waiter says I’m not rude, I’m just French

A waiter fired for being aggressive and disrespectful claims he’s not rude — he’s just French.

Guillaume Rey is suing a Vancouver restaurant in British Columbia’s Human Rights Tribunal for “discrimination against my culture,” according to the CBC.

Milestones Restaurant said Rey was given the boot for the “aggressive tone ” he used with co-workers while working as a waiter from October 2015 to August 2016.

He was fired after one faux pas left another server “borderline in tears,” the restaurant manager said.

But Rey says his colleagues just misinterpreted his “direct and expressive” French .

He argues French people are just more straightforward than Canadians and this made him come off as sharp and abrasive.

The eatery tried to dismiss the Frenchman’s complaint but the tribunal denied its request.

Rey will now have to explain in court what it is about French culture that makes French waiters come off as curt and insulting.
